Under The Spotlight: 30th Apr

Updated: Apr 30, 2022

This week we look again at one race for you here on The Cheeky Punts where we cast our eye over it for you in more detail here in our Under the Spotlight feature. And this week we have the first of the classics with the 2000 Guineas from Newmarket whilst it has been the NH feature has come from Punchestown and enters the final day

So this weeks featured race is:

How the betting looks

The Verdict

It’s been a bit of a mixed weeks for the favourite backers as the toll of a hard season, and big runs at Cheltenha, have surely caught up with some of the big boys, the notable exception being Honeysuckle who made it 16 from 16! What a mare she is.

Back to today though and we have another well fancied fav in Vauban who won the Grade 1 Triumph hurdle at Cheltenham with Fil Dor back in second. The two head the market again here and wily Willie will be looking to make it a hat trick of grade 1s for Vauban but he is a very short price. He looks hard to oppose but at 8/15, and possibly going off even shorter there looks little value in the bet to me.

Fil Dor naturally has a bit to find with the market principle but ranks the obvious danger and can capitalise if there is a mistake (which looks very unlikely) and of the best of the rest, HMS Seahorse could have a big run in him. An each way bet or a forecast with Vauban should see a decent return if he can challenge and get the better of Fil Dor for the minor honours

This should be an easy win for Mullins but as this week has shown for those following the favs, they can be beat. However, I cant see this one throwing up another shock today

Good Luck
