This week we continue our new feature as we look at one race from the UK and cast our eye over it for you in more detail
And this weeks featured race is:
Betfair Denman Chase (Grade 2) - 2m7f86y
Winner - £34,170
How the betting looks
This Grade 2 Denman chase doesn't jump out as a great contest with just the 5 runners but it does look quite an interesting affair. Clan Des Obeaux is the early favourite and its easy to see why. He is undoubtedly a high class chaser who was 2nd in the King George and won this race back in 2019 but the recent for of the Paul Nicholls stable is a real concern. Something seems a miss at the moment for the maestro as its just not been happening for him of late. This is in stark contrast to trainer Venetia Williams who has been in great form this season and with regular jockey Charlie Deutsch having a great season too, the pair have landed a number of big races. Royale Pagaille runs here having run a cracker under the top weight in the Peter Marsh at Haydock 3 weeks ago, landing the win in good style. Another big run here certainly wouldn't come as a shock to most.
Imperial Aura has lost his way of late and has actually failed to finish in 4 attempts so it looks hard to make a case for him, on his day though he has shown ability but it may be asking a lot to find that type of form again and challenge the top 2 here. Of the outsiders Eldorado Allen may rank the best and has been consistent with a couple of place efforts and a win at Exeter in a grade 2 back in November, beating the talented Hitman in the process.
The big outsider of the 5 is De Rasher Counter who hasn't been since for over a year (16 months since last seen) so it would take a big run from Emma Lavelles charge. At a big price it remains to be seen if this 10 YO can find the kind of run that saw him win a grade 3 at Newbury back in November 2019
In my view Eldorado Allen may be worth a cheeky each way punt at 9/1 but with just the 2 places on offer it is a speculative bet, Clan Des Obeaux looks a worthy favourite and the stable form suggests Royale Pagaille should go close as well
