The Guest Tipsters Views: The Grand National

Updated: Apr 9, 2022

For the big one we have asked a number of our previous guests for their views so lets see what the Racing experts fancy for The Grand National for you

First up its our own #Oddsknows with his view

I am usually not a huge fan of the National from a betting perspective however we have seen in more recent years that the better horses have actually done ok and that bodes well for my main selection. Snow Leopardess was my pick for this a few months back and I have backed this antepost and it looks like she will possibly go off as the favourite on the day. She ticks a lot of boxes for me but history may not be in our favour. She is a mare, a grey, a mother, the list goes on of things that haven't been done very often or for some huge lengths of time. Records are there to be broke though so I think she will have a good run and as a solid jumper who will race up the front end, I think she really looks the pick for me. There is always a story behind the winner so this looks tailor made to be the blockbuster!

Of the best of the rest I quite like Enjoy D'allen and Longhouse Poet has been widely supported. As a Preston lad, I'd love to see the famous colours of the late Trevor Hemmings coming home and giving them another winner of this and they are represented by Cloth Cap and Deise Alba. Both look good each way plays for the local lads

Lets see what our panel of experts think as well;

My pick here is going to Discorama - He finished seventh in this last year following a couple of jumping errors. He's not had a huge amount of prep going into this years race but keeping him fresh could be the key. I like Delta Work a lot but I fear how much the battle with Tiger Roll at Cheltenham would’ve taken out of him and this isn’t a race for the faint hearted. Escaria Ten and Eclair Surf are both going to be primed for this and should feature strongly but as well know the national is an extremely hard race to predict so all the best of luck with any of your selections.

TicTac Racing

A bit of a regular for us of late and our man has a few picks including a couple at the bigger prices too, they are;

TAK Racing Advice

5.15… the Grand National and a horse I backed straight after the Cross Country at Cheltenham was the horse that broke the publics heart when DELTA WORK went past Tiger Roll in the final strides. He looked to be still full of running crossing the line and if this XC/GN double was the plan then Delta Work is going to go close even off this big weight.

You could make cases for half the 40 runners but 2 others I’m backing are RUN WILD FRED who hasn’t been out of the top 2 in his last 7 runs including lto at Cheltenham over 3m 5f. This extra distance could be ideal with a man who certainly knows how to win over these fences Davy Russell on board. The other is ECLAIR SURF who has crept in at the bottom of the weights. Trainer Emma Lavelle was desperate for him to get in and his 2nd behind Win My Wings in the Eider has been franked massively after he went on to win the Scottish National last week.

DELTA WORK ew 10/1 7 places Skybet

ECLAIR SURF ew 12/1 7 places Skybet

RUN WILD FRED ew 18/1 6 places bet365

The Mares Allowance

My pick tomorrow is Discorama. A lightly raced 9 year old (the ideal age based on previous nationals) and has had a prep run this year which the trainer suggests will help. Also had a few wind ops which seem to have done the trick. A 7th in this last year, a good price to be had.

Good luck to everyone and let’s hope we can that winner between us. And don’t forget you can find all the best of today from us across all our racing pages here
