#OddsKnows Racing Preview: 8th Jan

Updated: Jan 8, 2022

Happy New Year to all our followers and as usual we have our weekend preview for you with the action from Sandown, Wincanton and Newcastle. We also have the all weather action from Lingfield and Kempton and as ever our man #OddsKnows takes a look at the best of all the action here for you on The Cheeky Punts.

Don't forget to check out the #OddsKnows Nap which you can find here

On to todays action and first up we have the money back race on Skybet and I think there could be some value in this one. Grey Diamond looks likely to go off the favourite and will be there or thereabouts but the one I'm going to side with is Casa Tall. He's already got a few wins to his name this season, coming on good to soft and he was a solid 2nd last time out behind a strong favourite. This looks a bit more open and a case can be made for a few of these with Another Crick also quite well fancied by a few people but I'm going to take a cheeky punt on our selection at a decent price

Sticking with Wincanton and in the 2.40pm I am going with the favourite here in Crossing the Bar. He is a bit short for me normally at around 2/1 but he has shown quite a bit of promise since switching to the hurdles and he could come in to this on a very fair mark. At a bigger price here Mister Sweets at 20/1 looks the each way value.

In the last I'm going for the Anthony Honeyball trained Lilith at around 3/1. She was 2nd last time out behind the smart Kapga De Lily and going off the same mark and down in grade here, she can certainly make her presence felt here. Honeyball also has a pretty good strike rate around this time of year and looks to have a good shot here at another winner.

One I want to chuck in here as a purely speculative punt is earlier in the day at 12.55pm and Love Actually is a big priced 33/1. We have a short priced favourite in this one with Flemenstide running for the maestro Paul Nicholls so we need a big run but our charge showed a bit of ability at Exeter and running from the bottom of the weights, we could see a big run and have an each way chance at a big price

Over to Sandown next and I'm going to kick us off by taking on what looks a solid fav in Farinet with the Jonjo trained Kilbrook. At 8/1 the safe play is probably an each way one as the market is quite open without the favourite and you can get around 5/1 for Kilbook w/o Farinet.

In the 1.50pm Numitor will be looking to another strong front running performance but Gunsight Ridge looks the main danger. A bit more rain would possibly help our charge with a pair of wins coming on heavy ground around this time of year at the end of 2020/start of 2021 and I'm hoping the experience here will count against Gunsight Ridge who has performed well but only has 2 runs over the bigger obstacles.

And to finish us off at Sandown its another one that is likely to be a relatively short price but it's hard to see past Hermes Boy in the 3.35pm. His form looks solid and I do like the look of this promising 5yo from the Jane Williams yard. He should take all the beating and may be one for the multiples at that price. At a bigger price here Zambezi fix is around 9/1 and had a good 2nd here over hurdles so can't be discounted and could be the one to challenge our charge here

Up to Newcastle and there was some concern that this would go ahead but, at time of writing, we go ahead so I'm taking a punt on The Paddy Pie in the 1.23pm. I think this looks another each way play and his jumping can let him down a but he could be due a big run in what looks a pretty open race.

At 3.08pm we have another fairly short priced favourite in Shaka The King but I am going to take him on with Rapid Raider. He is now on a career high mark on the back of a hat-trick of wins so going for the 4-timer today looks a big ask but, I think he could well be up to the challenge. It looks like just a small play on this one though

On to the All Weather and I'm taking on the favourites today starting with the 12.35pm. Jockey Jim Crowley rides for trainer Rae Guest on Melodramatica and it looks a very interesting booking, she has just 1 run 6 months ago winning on her debut here so providing she is well prepared for this, then 6/1 looks a great price for us.

At 2.55pm we have a likely odds on favourite in Agauplano but I think he looks beatable here and the one I am siding with is Reticent. Andrew Baldings horses usually come on for the first few runs and with Hayley Turner in the saddle we can go close at around 5/2.

And last up from Lingfield I am going for the all weather queen Hollie Doyle on Nuble for trainer Marco Botti. She won last time at Wolverhampton and with a decent draw here she can go close again at around 4/1

We'll have more for you later today for the evening meeting at Kempton for a few late all weather plays. Hopefully though the afternoons selections can get us a few beer tokens in the bank before that!

Good Luck whatever you are backing and don't forget you can follow #Oddsknows on Twitter @KnowsOdds for tips throughout the week and to keep up to date with all the action from @TheCheekyPunts
