As usual we have our weekend preview first up with the action coming from Sandown, Newcastle & Wincanton plus the all weather action from Lingfield and then Kempton under the lights
Our man #OddsKnows takes a look at the best of all the action for you on The Cheeky Punts plus don't forget to check out the #OddsKnows Nap which you can find here as well as the latest across all our racing pages.
We start as ever with the Money Back race on Skybet and it comes in the 1.15pm from Sandown. The favourite here is Gerirande who won LTO at Southwell and the powerful combo of Charlie Deutsch for Venetia Williams has to be taken seriously here. As with a lot of Venetia's horses you would expect her to go well on the softer ground and it could well get softer if the forecaster rain comes.
At a bigger price I also quite like High Stakes who did run over 3m at Catterick last time, finishing 3rd, and he should appreciate real cut in the ground. Trainer Warren Greatrex is also in pretty good form of late, with a 25% strike rate in the last 2 weeks so he has an outsiders chance in this one
I'm also going for some each way plays today with Sandown and we'll look to take advantage of the extra places on offer where possible. So in the 1.50pm the top 3 all look pretty competitive but I'm hoping that Dreams of Home can crash the party here at around 11/1. The Donald McCain 7YO has won up in Scotland on his last 2 starts but this is a hotter contest today so he needs a big run to break in to the 3 with that extra place on offer
The 2.25pm race looks a shootout between Authorised Speed and Tahumuras for the Tolworth but I think L'astroboy looks the value, each way play here at around 14/1. Our charge actually beat Tahumuras in a bumper last year before winning his maiden hurdles run to make it 2 from 2 under rules. If there is still improvement to come from him he could be competitive and lay a challenge down to the two market principals
Another each way shout next in the 3pm where we have 6 places on offer as the old boys are out for the Veterans Chase. Ramses De Teille heads the market but also shoulders top weight, which could be an issue, and an old favourite of mine Snow Leopardess could come in to the mix after a pleasing enough run in the beecher at Aintree last month. Time may however be catching up with her so I'm going to take a cheeky punt on Chirico Vallis who looks well weighted and should go well on the expected conditions. He did well last winter so this may well be the right time to catch him and at 12/1 he looks well worth an each way play
In the last at Sandown I am going for a straight win with Djelo who was beaten last time out at 1/3 and that combo of Deutsch and Williams can make amends here and take this one to get back on track. Iceo has drifted in the market which may be in part of the maestro Paul Nicholls said of him "he is a bit behind most of ours and is like to need the run". It would however be foolish to write him off! In the Air also looks a danger from the Moore's and is coming in for a bit of support and Lightly Squeeze won well after a huge layoff when winning at Kempton. Dr T J Eckleburg is also worth an each way shout at around 11/1
Away from the main action I have a couple of selections from each of the UK meetings with
Mullinaree in 12.55pm & Desque De L'Isle 2.05pm at Wincanton.
Mullinaree should be up there and showed a bit of promise in his last few and has a good chance to get off the mark here. That last race was the first for trainer Milton Harris and there could be more to come from him here.
Desque De L'Isle comes in to this off two wins at Ludlow although the jumping wasn't always the smoothest in those. I think he should be up there again although he does need to settle and may be open to a challenger so 4/1 looks a fair price
Up at Newcastle there are two I like and Castle Rushen (1.23pm) who unshipped Brian Hughes LTO so with a clean round here I think he can make amends. The next is Imperial Sachin's who is a horse in my tracker that could outrun big odds for an each way shout in the 1.58pm
And finishing up with all weather I have two picks (to go with my NAP which is also on the AW today) with Fine Balance in the 1.145pm and Come to Pass in the last at 3.30pm
