#OddsKnows Racing Preview: 30th Apr

Updated: Apr 30, 2022

As usual we have our weekend preview for you with the action this week coming from Newmarket with the first of the classics for the flat season plus supporting action from Goodwood and Thirsk. Over the sticks we have action from Uttoxeter and we've also got the evening action at Doncaster (flat) and Hexham (jumps)

Our man #OddsKnows once again takes a look at the best of all the action here for you on The Cheeky Punts and don't forget to check out the #OddsKnows Nap which you can find here as well as all the latest from our days picks on our racing pages

We start with the big one itself and I am a big fan of the favourite Native Trail who looks the one to beat in the 2000 Guineas today at 3.40pm. He could well be battling it out with another Godolphin runner in Coroebus but I think the value here could be the Aidan O'Brien runner Luxembourg. He has done little wrong as a 2YO with 3 wins from 3. This son of Camelot holds some big entries throughout the year including the Derby where he is the antepost favourite and he does look to be more of suited to the longer trip he'll face in the Derby. I wouldn't rule him out completely here though and in the betting without the favourite, the 3/1 on offer here very tempting with a small win bet at around 5/1

Earlier we have the Skybet money back race in the 2.25pm and I am going to side here with another Appleby/Buick combo in Dhahabi. He has been off the course for over 18 months so that is quite a long layoff so fitness has to be a question but he was quite an expensive purchase for Godolphin and they must have seen enough at home to suggest he can have a good 4YO campaign in him. Movin Time looks the main danger with the talented youngster Harry Davies onboard claiming 7lb.

Sticking with Newmarket and in the 1.50pm we have a very open looking race and 7 places on offer with Skybet so a tentative vote goes to Strike Red who shaped well over C&D and could come on for that run a bit. There looks to be a quite a few in with a chance here so the each way plays could come in and at a bigger price, If You Dare at about 28/1 looks to have a place chance.

In the 3pm Hurricane Ivor looks to be a bit overpriced to me at 7/1 and I think he will certainly be competitive here. He didn't handle the soft ground at Ascot but went on to win well at Newbury back in September on good ground so todays conditions should suit. He does have top weight here and is drawn in stall 8 but I still think he can be bang up there

In the 4.15pm Contact looks the pick for me and heads the market with State Bliss, the latter going up 5lb following a good win at Ripon 7 days ago. Our charge though should be sharper for a good run at Thirsk 3 weeks back when finishing 2nd (going off as fav) and he can go one better here as he looks well handicapped based on that run.

And in the last of the day at Newmarket I'm going for a bigger price in Manaccan at around 12/1. He was 4th in a G3 last season here at Newmarket and with top jockey Adam Kirby taking the ride again he can go close here and looks a good each way shot with 4 places on offer

On to Goodwood next and starting with the 2.40pm we have Zanbaq. The experienced Jim Crowley is onboard for this very unexposed 3YO having just a 2nd run after winning on her debut on the all weather. She holds an entry in the Coronation Cup at Ascot in the summer and looks to have bags of potential so could be a very interesting one today.

At 3.46pm it looks to be a good chance for the Milton Harris runner Super Superjack to take this after a good campaign last year. He looks to potentially be on a lenient mark here and can take advantage of that for the in form yard. And at 4.20pm Lovely Mana was only 4th LTO at Nottingham when going off as fav. It was maybe a touch too soft that day so todays ground looks more suitable and I think we should get a good run from this speedy looking filly who may well try to make all in this one again

Up to Thirsk for the final flat action of the day from me and we start with After John who I actually backed last week at Haydock. He was third that day and was maybe a touch unlucky and he will probably look to come from off the pace again so will need a bit of luck in running here. One who will likely run more prominently is Khabib in the 2.45pm and he has been in good form of late with a couple of wins on the AW. 2nd LTO on turf suggests he should be fine here again and I think he can go close at a decent looking price too

And completing the day for the flat from me we have Under Fox in the 4.35pm. The last 2 runs have been pretty solid with a win at Hamilton and then a very good 2nd at Pontefract so if he can show that kind of form, I'd epxect another big run. Again, he is likely to run right up with the pace which should suit here although the big danger looks to be from Lordman

And just a couple of the die hards over the jumps today at Uttoxeter. Fancky De Berlais looks to have a very good chance (and has been well supported) and at a bigger price for the day, Forecast looks to have a good each way chance in the 4.05pm

Good Luck whatever you are backing and don't forget you can follow
