#OddsKnows Racing Preview: 28th May

Updated: May 28, 2022

As usual we have our weekend preview for you with the action this week coming from Haydock, Chester, Beverley and Catterick. Over the jumps we've got action from Cartmel and the all weather card comes from Chelmsford, for the evenings fans we've also got racing from Salisbury (flat) and Ffos Las (jumps)

Our man #OddsKnows once again takes a look at the best of all the action here for you on The Cheeky Punts and don't forget to check out the #OddsKnows Nap which you can find here as well as all the latest from our days picks on our racing pages

We start as ever with the Money Back race from Skybet which this week is the 1.45pm from Haydock. There were quite farcical scenes there on Friday night with racing abandoned due to 'unsafe' ground so it could well still prove a bit tricky today. Hopefully though the clerks have had a chance to sort it over night and we'll get a good days racing. Back to the racing though and I actually like the fav in this one, Dragon Symbol but looking for the value with that offer I'm going to have a small play on Clarendon House. He's won 4 from 7 and only failed to place once and the ground today shouldn't cause him any trouble. At around 11/2 he could trouble the favourite and should be bang up there for at least the money back

Sticking with Haydock and in the 2.20pm Jim Crowley takes the mount on Mahrajaan for the in form Haggas yard and looks to have a solid chance here. It is a competitive looking race with a number of dangers but the pair have a good strike rate here and this low mileage 4YO could have more to come this season.

In the 2.55pm we have a really good looking G3 and a case can be made for a number of these with Sea La Rosa for that man Haggas again just heading the market and Noon Star up there for trainer Sir Michael Stoute. I'm going to take them both on though with Lady Hayes for Roger Varian, another top trainer, to run a big race. She was 2nd here in the Lancashire Oaks and just touched off on her reappearance at Goodwood when finishing strongly and I think she can go well again here today. She does have a high draw, which isn't ideal, but there doesn't look a lot of pace in the race so I expect a few to drop in and potentially leave the likes of Sea La Rosa open to a late finisher

Last up from me at Haydock we have the 3.30pm and its a tentative vote for Laneqash who makes a return after 8 months off. On last seasons form he should be up there and he has gone well fresh before. Kinross also catches the eye here having shaped better than the result suggests in a G1 at Ascot and with James Doyle onboard he could well be the one to beat

Over to Beverley next and we start with the 2.05pm where I am going with and I'm going to side with the Hannon filly Distinguished Lady with Hayley Turner onboard. She was far from disgraced when finishing 3rd on here debut LTO and should come on for that run and I'd expect a bold showing from stall one.

The 2.40pm looks a really intriguing race and I am going for one here at a slightly bigger price so the each way play looks the way forward on this one with Blue for You. He's been off since September last year and in that time has switched to the David O'Meara yard who will be looking to get him back on track. If he can work his magic, we could be in with a good each way chance here

And in the 3.15pm I am going to take on the favourite Whistle and Flute with the Andrew Balding runner Chateau. The Balding 2 YO's usually come on for the run so he maybe needed the run out when finishing 3rd (of 5) at Salisbury on his debut and he did hit a bit of trouble in running that day. With Buick onboard today it shows a signal of intent so I think he looks to have a good chance here at around 11/4

Of to Chester next and a track I really like (I'm hoping to get there at some point this summer!) and we start with the 3.10pm where Old Port is around 6/1 for this one. He makes his turf debut here after an impressive run of wins on the all weather and he's shown enough in them to suggest the 1m5f here shouldn't be a problem. If he handles the ground he should be right up in the mix for this one

At 3.45pm it's a horse I've followed a few times in Boardman and he's likely to be a popular choice again here. He comes from a plum draw in stall 2 and on the back of a good win LTO at Thirsk. Another big run here looks on the cards to continue that good form and follow up to land the double

In the 4.45pm I am going to go with Roudemental who won at Redcar having switched to the Hugo Palmer yard and followed that up with a good 3rd at Doncaster LTO (when going off fav) getting caught late on. That was over a mile so I'm expecting a more patient ride today over the 1m2f and providing he can see out the extra trip, he looks to have a great shot

And the racing comes thick and fast today as we also have action at Catterick and I'm kicking off here with Desert Team in the 2.29pm. I thought she was a little unlucky last time out at Beverley but the winner that day has gone on to land 2 more wins since and the 4th behind her in 4th has also gone in since. With young Harry Burns onboard 3/1 looks worth a shot

At 3.39pm I'm going for Langholm who has some decent C&D form including a win here just over 12 months ago and in current form 7/2 for another win here looks worth a cheeky punt.

And in the last of the day at Catterick at 5.24pm Special Mayson looks the one to beat having had a bit of a pipe opener here last month. It looks a pretty open race this one and the pace looks like it will be a hot one but our charge should be right up there ready to pounce!

For those like me who love a bigger price I've also got my each way L15 with one from each for today with the likeable Mitrosonfire at Haydock, Urban Sprawl at Chester, Lady Lou at Beverley and Good Earth at Catterick.

And last but by no means least, I have a pick from the jumps and the all weather with Latino Fling looking the standout pick up at Cartmel. And on the AW I'm going to have a cheeky punt on Blue Flame in the 4.45pm

Good Luck whatever you are backing and don't forget you can follow
