#OddsKnows Racing Preview: 25th June

Updated: Jun 25, 2022

As usual we have our weekend preview with the action this week coming from Newcastle over the all weather, Newmarket, Windsor and Chester plus a look to the Derby in Ireland.

So for this week our man #OddsKnows once takes a look at the best of all the action at Newcastle for you on The Cheeky Punts and don't forget to check out the #OddsKnows Nap which you can find here as well as all the latest for today on our racing pages

It's a big day of all weather action today and I do love a bit of racing on the sands. Newcastle provides the venue for today with the Northumberland Plate taking centre stage today. We have some big fields to go at so lets see what value we can find for today

We kick off with the opener at 1.15pm in what looks a really open race with plenty in with a chance, and we may see this as a common theme for the day. Young Harry Davies is in action up in the North East and has his usual strong looking bookings and he partners The Nu Form Way here for Hugo Palmer and has been strong in the market however this is the 4YOs first run on the AW. The Queen of the flat Hollie Doyle gets the leg up on Arabian Warrior who has more AW experience and showed a bit of promise LTO at Sandown and is also strong in the betting and should go close but the one I am siding with here is Brancaster. The old boy is still pretty lightly raced but his last 2 runs here at Newcastle read 2nd and 1st. We can possibly excuse the last run and he should be sharper for this so looks good each way value at around 15/2

Up next at 1.50pm we have another pretty open looking race but again it could prove wise to side with the C&D form and Strike Red is the one who stands out with 2 wins from 3 here. He was a good 4th LTO at Hamilton so looks primed to go well here. Tommy De Vito looks a good alternative and has top jockey Tom Marquand onboard and I think Rolfe Rembrandt also has solid each way claims with the extra places on offer from a few bookmakers.

At 2.25pm is the Chipchase Stakes and we have some familiar names in this one with the consistent Glen Shiel, Spycather and Edraak with the latter 2nd here at Easter ahead of Spycatcher in 3rd. Judicial won this back in 2020 but is 10YOs now and Bielsa has been pretty lacklustre in a number of sprints since winning last years Ayr Gold Cup. The 3YO Ebro River won a G1 last year but hasn't really kicked on since but clearly has potential but its another 3YO in Sense Of Duty who looks the pick here. She looks to be going the right way and can give another bold showing here, providing she handles the surface I think she will take all the beating

Before the main event of the day we have the Northumberland Vase with 18 going to post for this 2m handicap. Evaluation heads the betting and is 4 from 4 so has to be respected but with the extra places on offer here I am going to look for some of the bigger e/w punts. Haveyoumissedme looks to have a fair chance and Tiger Jet has come in for plenty of support in the market so could be a interesting one under Cam Hardie. Monsieur Lambrays was first past the post, subsequently demoted to 2nd, at York LTO over 1m6f but goes off the same mark here so could be competitive but I'm going to take a chance here on Mellow Magic and Catbird Seat.

Harry Davies will claim his 5lb on Mellow Magic and he's been pretty consistent and was 3rd over 2m at Goodwood earlier this month and actually went off favourite that day but is up in grade here. Catbird Seat is also up in grade but again has run over 2m so stamina shouldn't be an issue. Hollie Doyle is one of the best there is on the AW so I think she will be there or thereabouts.

The big race of the day is the Northumberland Plate at 3.30pm and it looks like the usual minefield of big handicaps with 20 runners lining up for this.

The market is headed by the superstar Trueshan but he has done nearly all his winning on softer ground, and was pulled out of Ascot as it was too quick. He could only manage 6th in this last year so I think there is better value to be had here. Valley Forge has a first run on the AW and looks the pick of the Balding runners and Rajinsky is a reliable sort having finished 7th and 3rd here in the last 2 runnings. Summer Knight also has a first run on the AW but looks like he may have been laid out for this one having a run under his belt and taking on 2m for the first time. The pedigree certainly suggests that he should stay and he looks to have a great chance as a solid each way punt. At a bigger price I also like Solent Gateway who is a horse I've had in my tracker for a while and whilst he hasn't had the greatest of times since joining the Hugo Palmer yard, he may be able to make amends for that with a big run here and pick up some valuable place money.

For the best of the rest for the day I'm going with a couple of bigger priced each way punts with Mystical Dreams, Aleezdancer and Strawberri to round off what is hopefully a great day of all weather racing.

Good Luck whatever you are backing and don't forget you can follow
