As usual we have our weekend preview with the action this week coming from Ascot, York and Newmarket plus some a/w action today at Newcastle . We also have a couple of evening meetings again today with Salisbury and Lingfield (a/w) under the Saturday night lights
Our man #OddsKnows takes a look at the best of all the action for day here for you on The Cheeky Punts plus, don't forget to check out the #OddsKnows Nap which you can find here as well as all the latest for today on our racing pages today
We start with our old favourite, the money back race on Skybet and today its the opener at Ascot in the 1.50pm. Lezoo is a pretty warm order for this one but I'm actually going to take a bit of a punt on Minnetonka at around 10/1. She has had the 2 runs but we can hopefully put a bit of a line through the one at Newmarket LTO and its worth noting that our selection was favourite ahead of Lezoo when they met that day. If she can run more like her opener when winning at Salisbury, virtually making all that day, then she could really give the fav something to think about. Hannon is also quoted today as saying "mark my words, she's a very good filly and I'll be disappointed if she isn't in the money" High praise indeed from the big man and I'm happy to go with them at a very nice looking, double digit price.
At 3pm we have the latest big handicap race and the next round for the Dandinap competition and as usual it looks as tricky as ever! We've 22 going to post and the market is headed by the solid looking Dark Shift who comes here bidding for the hattrick. There's a few of the usual suspects now lining up here so plenty in with a chance including the likes of Bless Him, the Queens runner Tactical and the very likeable Ropey Guest to name just a few
My pick here though is going to be one I've gone with before in the shape of Fresh who I think has a big race win in him this year. The Wokingham didn't really work out when he went off favourite but I think he could be worth sticking with. One who did run well that day that may also be worth another chance though is the Eve Johnson Houghton runner Jumby. Hollie Doyle will be onboard today and he's been consistently knocking on the door so could well be up there again fighting for the honours.
Last up from me is the King George at 3.35pm and whilst I'm a big fan of Westover I do worry he is being a bit over hyped. The Irish Derby win was very comfortable but he hasn't beaten much for me there and I'm not as convinced as some on his 'unlucky' 3rd in the UK version. At around 6/4 he looks too short to me so I think its worth a cheeky little punt on the filly Emily Upjohn. She gets that all important weight allowance going up against the boys today and could be a bit better value than the fav, watch out too for Mishriff who could well throw a spanner in the works and beat the pair of them if bang on form and is the pick based purely on the ratings. The 5YO though has to give a full stone to Emily Upjohn though so could equally find this a bit tough.
We've also lots of action today so I've also picked out my best bet for York & Newmarket plus one I like on the all weather at Newcastle
2.40 York - Gale Force Maya
I was quite surprised to see this smart 6YO mare go out to as big as 9/1 last night (now back in to around 6s) given the form she's been in of late including a win over C&D back in June. She followed that up with a good 3rd in a Group 3 (also here at York) so I think she looks well worth a cheeky each way punt at today's price
4.52 Newmarket - Vaunted
My Saturday Nap goes at Newmarket today but my second selection from HQ goes in the last and its another talented filly in Vaunted. She won well LTO at Pontefract despite being slowly away and this smaller field today should suit again. She has drifted to around 3/1 this morning but still looks worth siding with for me
1.35 Newcastle - Thaayer
I do enjoy the all weather and we've some decent looking action today up at Newcastle and the selection here comes in a class 6 on the all weather, not everyone cup of tea I know! There could be some value though with the favourite Odds Socks Havana likely to be well supported (the syndicate owners will likely steam in on him today) and Iron Sheriff may also come in for a bit of support based on his recent turf form. I'm siding with Thaayer though who looked sharper for wind surgery when 4th LTO and at around 7/1 looks a solid each way play
