#OddsKnows Racing Preview: 23rd Apr

Updated: Apr 23, 2022

As usual we have our weekend preview for you with the action this week coming from Sandown as the curtain comes down on the jump season with flat action from Haydock, Leicester & Ripon. We've also got the evening action at Doncaster plus Wolverhampton under the lights on the All Weather

Our man #OddsKnows once again takes a look at the best of all the action here for you on The Cheeky Punts and don't forget to check out the #OddsKnows Nap which you can find here as well as all the latest from our days picks on our racing pages

And we start the day with that Jumps card at Sandown and in the opener we have quite a competitive looking start to the day with the old favourite Knappers Hill currently heading the market for the maestro Paul Nicholls. Head Law comes in to this on the back of 3 wins for the Jonjo's but the one I am siding with here is Whizz Kid. Sam Twiston-Davies takes the mount today and partnered him to victory at Ludlow back in March although he wasn't onboard LTO when he finished 4th at Aintree (when going off favourite). I think he has a big win in him though so 9/2 here looks good value and I think he should certainly be in the mix

At 3.32pm its the G3 Bet365 Gold Cup and all eyes will be on trainer Christian Williams who has scooped a number of these big pots and has a strong hand again here with Win My Wings and Kitty's Light, and I expect both to be in the mix but both face challenges. Win My Wings has top weight today although James will take off 7lb but both he and Kitty's Light had hard races up in the Scottish National 3 weeks ago so I am going to take them both on with Enrilo for the maestro again Paul Nicholls. He actually won this last year and was first past the post however he subsequently lost it in the stewards room having wandered a bit in front. He's off pretty much the same mark today so can make amends and should have a strong run. Of the bigger prices the eye catcher is Domaine De L'Isle with the Champ Brian Hughes on board. He is 2 from 3 under him although this seasons form leaves a lot to be desired! If the champ can work his magic though he could have a good e/w chance.

And bringing down the curtain in the closer its another I really like in Fifty Ball who can sign off here with another win. He looked good LTO winning at Ascot and hasn't been disgraced when running in some hotter contents earlier this season. This looks a winnable race for trainer Gary Moore and young Niall Houlihan will take off a valuable 3lb here and looks a good booking for this one.

Up to Haydock next as we get in to the start of the flat action and Skybet have the money back offer in the 2.05pm so I am going to take a bit of a punt on Silver Samurai. He was only narrowly beat last time out on the AW over 7f so he should give a good account here. It's a tough looking race to call but with the money back down to 4th, its worth a bit of a speculative cheeky punt.

Prior to that we have the 1.30pm where I like the look of After John who has tumbled down the weights and looked much better on his stable debut last time out when 2nd at Thirsk. He may have found his level a bit more here so I think he could well be a winner in waiting. Another in this race is a horse i've followed in my tracker in Water of Leith but he's now 21 races without a win and is 0-10 on turf! He returned 3rd last time out at Wolves on the AW so could have a place chance here but I'm not overly confident

In the 3.15pm I like Exminster who was favourite last time out but could only manage 5th although the draw was far from ideal that day at Beverely. I think he can make amends though here and looks a solid play at around 3/1. And then in the 3.45pm I am going to go with the Appleby horse Baldomero. James Doyle will be onboard however his best runs of late have come on the AW and he hasn't won (yet) on the turf. 9/2 is a little short all things considered but I think he is worth a small punt and we know Appleby can get the best out of his runners

On next to Ripon and in the 2.20pm I am going to go with Copper and Five who is a C&D winner and has the very talented Jo Mason onboard. This looks a tough one but I do like course form at Ripon, and that very much brings in the 2 time C&D winner Hortzadar as well although he has gone up the weights now so may be getting caught by the handicapper.

In the 2.55pm we've a very open looking one so the tentative vote is going to Haizoom who is another C&D winner and there may still be more to come from her. She has been on a good run finishing first or second in her last 6 races so I think we could see another bold showing here and be bang in the mix again. And last up from me from Ripon we have Bedford flyer in the 4pm in this 5f dash. He has plenty of speed so could take all the catching although a note here on a bit of a fave of mine in Ey Up It's Maggie who i've backed a few times and I think she could also go very close here.

And finally from me for today just a couple down at Leicester for today starting with the 1.35pm. Sunny Orange in the opener looks well bred and trainer Ralph Beckett usually does ok with his 2YO's first time out. The booking of Rossa Ryan also looks a smart one so I'm happy to have a punt on them at around 11/2. Later in the 3.20pm Letmelivemylife has switched yards of late so I'm hoping that will re-energise him a bit as he certainly looks to have the potential to go well here

Good Luck whatever you are backing and don't forget you can follow
