#OddsKnows Racing Preview: 22nd Jan

Updated: Jan 22, 2022

As usual we have our weekend preview for you with the action from Ascot, Haydock and Taunton. We also have the all weather action from Lingfield and Wolverhampton and as ever our man #OddsKnows takes a look at the best of all the action here for you on The Cheeky Punts.

Don't forget to check out the #OddsKnows Nap which you can find here as well

There are a few short prices going today in a good looking Saturday and starting with Ascot in the 1.10pm and I am siding with trainer Venetia Williams who has been in good form of late. Didero Vallis was 2nd at Ludlow a month ago and a run to that level should see him go close again today.

In the 2.20pm My Sister Sarah represents the powerful Willie Mullins yard and the Irish raider looks to be in with a great chance here in a pretty competitive looking race. Molly Ollys Wishes has drifted a bit but still looks a danger and Western Victory has come in for a lot of support. So its a tentative vote and I'd keep an eye on the markets to see if anyone else comes in for significant support.

And last up from Ascot from me its the 2.55pm where I like the Jonjo horse Palmers Hill. He does step up in trip for this and has gone up 8lb following wins at Wetherby and here at Ascot but I don't think either of these should stop him going in again today and landing the hat-trick

Over at Ascot and the 1.25pm is all about the superstar Jonbon and at heavy odds on I expect him to hack up here. Skybet off money on this one but I don't see any value taking on Jonbon at all so I am going to have a bit of nibble on Richmond Lake w/o Jonbon at 10/3. He is 3rd in the betting behind Might I but Donald McCains 6yo could have a bright future behind the obvious big names dominating this sphere currently.

And as a really speculative punt, Nells Son is the 66/1 outsider of the field and I would normally say this looks overpriced but given I expect the fav to walk it, and only 2 places on offer, it does limit the chances. So as a bit of a cheeky punt I'm going to have a small f/c best on Jonbon and Nells Son which should pay a decent return if it does land

Sticking with Haydock and we have another short fav in Tommys Oscar and again, I don't really see him getting beat but I think the each way value here is Rockadenn at 20/1. This is a lot tougher than previous races so again its a bit of a speculative punt but it could be decent value if we can sneak a place at least

The 3.10pm looks very open and I think the value here is Tesscomponents Lad at 9/1 or bigger. He's generally pretty consistent and has finished ahead of Small Present in their last 2 races and I'm not sure he can reverse that even at these weights. If you can get double figures for our selection I'd be having that as an each way play

On to the 3.45pm and I'm taking another bit of a risk on Oscars Leader. He actually pulled up last time when a short priced fav so I'm hoping he comes back to this at his best and can pick up where he left off before that run (when a solid 3rd for at Warwick)

And in the last at Haydock and I'm going for Feivel who has come in for a bit of support but has a tough task against a solid looking fav in Sacre Peirre. 4/1 looks a fair price and we know he should handle the conditions but there could be an argument had to go for the each way play for the more cautious

The remaining NH meeting of the day is at Taunton so I've just a few selections from here. The Russian Doyen at 4/1 in the 2.43pm could be a steal as he looks on a good mark back over hurdles. His 2nd last time out suggests he may be back in the mood so could go close in this one.

At a bigger price at Taunton I'm going for the 3.53pm where Skybet have 6 places on offer. Love Actually has a bit to find on her limited runs so far but trainer Keiran Burke sends just the one runner to the south west and has pretty good return rate when he does. 11/1 should be decent each way value with those extra places on offer

Some of you may know I do love an all weather card and Lingfield have a good looking card today as part of their Million series this weekend. So my picks are below looking for a bit of value and the pick of these from me is probably Viola at 9/2. Algheed also looks a big price and should be competitive but could be a good each way play as well

We also have an evening card for Wolverhampton so don't forget to give me a follow on Twitter @KnowsOdds where I may have a few picks for tonight as well

Good Luck whatever you are backing and don't forget you can follow #Oddsknows on Twitter @KnowsOdds for tips throughout the week and to keep up to date with all the action from @TheCheekyPunts
