#OddsKnows Racing Preview: 22nd Apr

Updated: Apr 22, 2023

As usual we have our weekend preview with and we welcome back the flat action with action from Newbury & Thirsk plus two evening meetings coming from Brighton & Nottingham. We've also got NH action with the Scottish Grand National meeting at Ayr plus and afternoon at Bangor over the jumps

Our man #OddsKnows takes a look at the best of all the action for you on The Cheeky Punts plus don't forget to check out the latest across all our racing pages for the day

We start up at Ayr and in the opener we have the money back race from Skybet and I'm going to go with Elixir De Nutz here. He disappointed at the Cheltenham Festival but was slighty hampered and possibly didn't really get in to it. This looks more winnable although the favourite Frere D'Armes for trainer Dan Skelton looks a worthy favourite and is looks the one to beat

Sticking with Ayr, and you can check out our Scottish National preview here, I've picked out my best of the rest here

Nap - City Chief (1.50pm)

City Chief missed Cheltenham and Aintree having won LTO at Wetherby and Nicky Henderson's smart 6YO looks the type who can continue to progress and can make it 3 on the spin here at a relatively short price

Nb - Thunder Rock (3pm)

In the 3pm Thunder Rock hasn't been disgraced running in grade 1 company on his last two outings and this looks like a return to slightly calmer waters. It's still a very competitive looking race though and Unexpected Party is worth a mention here too, he's yet to win over fences but definitely looks capable of a big run

IWAC - Anna Bunina (2.25pm)

Having finished 2nd last year and winning this the year before, Anna Bunina has to be respected in the Scottish Champion Chase and can give a good account again here. Young Ben Harvey takes off 5 and with conditions likely to suit a price of around 7/1 looks a solid each way play

Newbury

We switch attention next to the flat action at Newbury and a few big names back out on show

Nap - Hurricane Lane (1.30pm)

In the opener here we see the re-appearance of Hurricane Lane who didn't really excel last season but had some fantastic wins as a 3YO including winning the St Leger. If he's judged ok that form, and back to anything like what he showed then, he should be the class act in this field

Nb - Greatest Time (3.50pm)

With just a single run to his name Greatest Time had a very good 2nd at Newmarket with that form taking a bit of a boost since. He should go well here and holds Enscarpment on that run so should be bang in the mix here

IWAC - Bridgestones (2.05pm)

We have a very intriguing looking one here at 2.05pm but I'm drawn to Bridgestones for the Gosdens. She won At Yarmouth on her only start to date but went away nicely that day on softer ground and given it's going to be soft here again today, she looks worth a cheeky each way punt with top jockey Will Buick onboard

Best of the Rest

Away from the big two for the day I have picked out a couple from Thirsk on the flat and two down at Bangor over the jumps for us

Up at Thirsk I like the look of Washington Heights in the 2pm and im also siding again with Emiyn in the 2.35pm who ran well for us LTO.

Over the obstacles at Bangor im going to go with Blueberry Wine in the 1.40pm and then Nothingtochance in the 3.25pm

Good Luck whatever you are backing and don't forget you can follow me
