With all the action coming this Saturday from Epsom on Derby day we have all 7 races at the one meeting.
Here we take a look at each of the races for you on The Cheeky Punts as there's £100k up for grabs
Race 1 - The Derby
Some have said this year's renewal of the famous old race doesn't look the strongest and there may be a touch of truth in that but it should still be a fantastic race. It's also at the earlier time of 1.30pm to accommodate the FA Cup final but it does make for a great day ahead for sports fans
At the head of the betting we've got Augustine Rodin who was looking like the potential superstar and was the 3rd highest rated 2YO but he disappointed in the 2,000 Guineas. It would be foolish tho to write off the O'Brien charge in this with the master training having won 5 of the last 10 running of this prestigious race. Also at the head of the betting we have Arrest which is largely buoyed by the Frankie factor. The final farewell tour has been proving pretty productive for the ever popular Dettori (who will be a great loss to racing when he hangs up his saddle at the end of this season) and he has a live chance here to end with another G1. However, the fast ground may not be to his suiting here and whilst the heart would love to see him win, my head says otherwise.
So my vote is going to another of the principles in Military Order who can win this in the famous Godolphin colours. As a full brother to 2021 winner Adayar and with a convincing win in the Lingfield trials he looks the one to beat for me
The Derby does have a bit of history in throwing up some bigger priced winners with 3 of the last 5 winning at 16/1 or bigger so at that end of the market Artistic Star is unbeaten in only 2 runs and has a fine looking pedigree (out of Galileo) but inexperience could count against him here. Oisin Murphy takes the mount on The Foxes for Andrew Balding and the former champion jockey will maybe have extra incentive for this have been withdrawn under orders on Running Lion in Fridays Oaks
White Birch is a fine looking grey who ran well behind The Foxes in the Dante last time and looked like the extra 2f here could suit so can't be discounted and another worth mentioning here is Dubai Mile who beat Arrest as a 2YO (in France) and was a respectable 5th in the 2,000 Guineas so he's another with each way chances
After the big one we have a good day ahead at Epsom and in the 2.10pm Frankie Dettori can land a derby day winner with Prosperous Voyage. She looks a smart fully based on here G1 form so should be the one to beat in this G3
Potapova rates the main danger but after an irregular heartbeat was found last year there is a question mark for me on the level she can reach now so the main challenge may come from jockey Jim Crowley on Shaara for teh Gosdens who doesn't have many miles on the clock so potential has more score to improve
At 2.45pm we have the first of the 5f Dashes with the 3YOs up so this looks a bit of a minefield! My vote is going for Jm Jungle who had a few of these behind him when finishing 2nd at York and he has been knocking on the door so looks a solid each way punt
A case can be made for a number of these though with Can to Can, Tattersall and Russet Gold the pick of the challengers
The 3.20pm is another 5f dash which again looks wide open. The tentative vote here goes to Ancient Times with a very good claimer onboard in Kaiya Fraser. Another I like here and my second choice in the race is Look out Louis who can hopefully bounce back and run well from a lower draw.
I do think however the mid to high could be the place to be for this which does certainly bring in to play Vintage Clarets with Oisin Murphy in the saddle and Lihou who has been pretty consistent and can be in the mix again.
I'm willing to take on favourite Clarendon House but he's not totally discounted despite that low draw (from stall 2) and Zarzinyi is another who can be in the shake up
This could be a interesting affair at 3.55pm but my preference is marginally for Balance Play who is still unexposed but has potential which can hopefully be unlocked with the step up in trip.
Torito looks the main challenger from the Gosdens and is another with bags of potential as is Promoter who looks like he should relish the step up in trip as well for the in form Beckett yard
Scampi is one that catches the eye for the 4.30pm and even with a 6lb rise I think he showed enough to suggest that he had enough in hand LTO with conditions to suit again here. I am however going to take him on with a potential improver in Max Mayhem. Benoit DLS is onboard and I'm taking a bit of cheeky punt that he can show a little bit more here to take this one
Ryan Moore takes the ride on Caius Chorister and is an eye catching booking for the French raider after a good 2nd here but that was over 1m2f and on softer ground so I'm not sure conditions today will necessarily suit but if they do, he can't be ruled out for a big run
It's a good handicap to close out what will no doubt be a great derby day at Epsom so hopefully we can end it with a winner as well. As an alternative to the nap tho Probe may have a bit to prove on todays faster going and Apollo One, who was behind him LTO, could also go well here. Many a Star makes a reappearance but has been off track for a while so may be in need of the run so at a bigger price Count Otto has a pretty good record at Epsom and could be a decent each way play at a big price
