ITV7 picks: 24th June

Updated: Jun 24

After a week of top class racing from Royal Ascot, including some huge priced winners along the way making the ITV7 a tough call all week, we have our picks for the final day including our race by race preview as we try to finish the week with a bang

Race 1

Aidan O'Brien has a great record in this and has a strong hand once again with the in form Ryan Moore on the fav Pearls and Rubbies and the Galileo filly Content but I am going to take him on with the Richard Hannon charge La Guarida. He's had 2 runs, winning LTO in good fashion, and he looks primed for a big run here.

Top jock Will Buick has been relatively quiet of late but could have a live chance here on Matnookh for trainer Richard Fahey and potentially could go well here stepping up to 7f and at a bigger price another Fahey runner in Golden Mind could go well for place money

Race 2

Frankies farewell has been going pretty well at Ascot and he could well find himself back in the winners circle here with Covey who has done little wrong so far and won the Silver Bowl. The Frankie factor will also come in to play so he may be a little short in the market but he looks the one to beat.

There may be some value here to be found in Olivia Maralda who impressed on Oaks days. Based on that she's on the shortlist for sure along with The Antarctic whos won at 6f but should handle the step up to 7f here. Interestingly the Godolphin yard has been stuggling for winners of late but I still wouldnt rule out a big run from Mysterious Night but he does need to find a bit based on a his Craven run

Race 3

The Japanese raiders have been doing well on the global front of late and Wellington has been doing his winning there and with Moore onboard he looks very interesting and worth taking a chance on in this pretty open looking Group 1 which has a true international feel.

Aussie raider Artorius was 3rd in this last year and Highfield Princess was 2nd here earlier in the week so neither can be ruled out with the home charge likely to be headed by Sacred for WIlliam Haggas and the ever likeable Rohaan also likely to be in the mix. We also have another Godolphin runner and if you can ignore their relatively poor form of late, then Al Suhail very much comes in to the mix as well

Race 4

Hukum is a big non runner here so this now looks like another good chance for Dettori on Free Wind but I'm going to take a bit of a punt on Changingoftheguard who won at the Royal meeting last year and he could well repeat that for the powerful Moore and O'Brien combo

Race 5

Another pretty open looking race for the G2 Wokingham but I'm going to take the fav here with Orazio. Having missed last year he's still pretty unexposed and we may not have seen his ceiling yet. There's a big field here and I think it could pay to side with the high numbers and I have to also mention Mr Waygu here who has disappointed the last few weekends (when I've put him up as my nap!) but this is his time of year and he certainly has a big win in him

Race 6

This looks a very trappy race and a tough one to call so my tentative selection is Ziryab who has showed signs he's got a big run in him and this could be his day. Lion of War looks well drawn with Oisin Murphy in the plate and Dettori is in with a chance again here on Knockbrex following a bit of an eyecatching run at York. This looks one with a lot in with a chance and with extra places generally available its worth a cheeky punt on any number of these

Race 7

The lucky last can hopefully provide some consolation for punters and go to the favourite Dawn Rising who looks a classy type and has already come in for a bit of market support (and I think could well go off even shorter). Run for Oscar will have something to say on that and looks laid out for this one and a runner for the wily Willie Mullins has to be respected. He saddles Stratum and with Will Buick onboard he looks for another Royal winner at the grand old age of 10

Good Luck and lets hope someone can land that huge jackpot on this final day of the Royal meeting
